Q: What is an ECU and what does it do? The electronic control unit (ECU) used in today’s cars and trucks is used to control the engine and other components’ functions. An ECU is a computer with internal pre-programmed.

Unit Not Responding to Remote ControlCause:If the mini-split unit is not reponding to the remote control, there are a number of causes that can be causing the issue. If the unit beeps when a button is pressed, the remote control works fine and you only need toSuggestions:. Verify the remote control has new working batteries. If the remote control is not responding, then it is likely the remote control's batteries are dead.

Replace the batteries with new batteries.Make sure the batteries work. There has been instances where people replace the batteries with 'new' batteries that they thought would work but were actually old disposed batteries. Look for a button on the front right side of the unit under the 'lid'.

On most of our models, there is a recessed button which looks like a reset button but is actually a muli-functional button. Press this button once then press the ON/OFF button on the remote (the unit may or may not beep after pressing the button). Do this at least four (4) times or until you hear a beep from the unit after pressing the button on the remote control. Verify the system beeps after power is reset to the system. When the power is reset to the system, the indoor unit should beep indicating power has been returned to the system. If you do not hear a beep, then there is an issue with the system not receiving power and not a remote control issue.

Verify that there is nothing blocking the reciever. If there is something obstructing the signal to the unit, it will not respond properly.

Verify that the remote control works properly. The remote control transmits an infrared signal, which is invisible to the human eye. This signal could be detected with a digital camera, including smartphone cameras. Point the transmitter (which should look like a little clear 'eye' in the front of the remote conrtol) into the lens of the camera. When you press a button, the remote control will try to send a signal which can be seen as a flash by the digital camera.

You do not need to take a picture of this; you can simply view the preview of the photo and look for the flash. Verify the display board or indoor board is working properly. If all previous items were checked, the problem lies with the receiver or getting the information from the receiver to indoor control board. Make sure the receiver is properly connected. The receiver is usually in the display board, a small circuit board on the front of the unit. If the remote control is working but not being received, the problem lies with the display board or the indoor control board. Since there is no way to pinpoint the source of the error, one of both of the boards will have to be replaced and the unit will have to be tested to determine if the problem is fixed.
